The Kallang River, Singapore’s longest river, meanders through various residential and industrial neighborhoods such as Bishan, Toa Payoh, Bendemeer, and Kallang Bahru before converging into Kallang Basin. This presents a significant opportunity to invigorate the riverfront areas and foster community building.

Following the ‘A River Runs Through It’ exhibition in March 2017, extensive efforts have been made to collect ideas and feedback from local stakeholders. The aim is to reimagine the Kallang River as more than just a waterway but as a vibrant hub that connects people, places, and cherished memories.

• Bishan-Braddell ABC Waters

The enhancements under the ABC Waters Programme, spanning from Bishan Road to Braddell Road, are slated for completion in the second quarter of 2019. Residents can anticipate a revitalized waterfront area featuring an array of improvements. These include an abundance of lush planting, additional rest areas, cantilevered decks, and the addition of a pavilion. These upgrades aim to create a more aesthetically pleasing and functional environment for residents to enjoy along the waterfront.

• Old Kallang Airport

Looking ahead, there are plans to develop the broader vicinity around Kallang Riverside into a vibrant mixed-use lifestyle hub. However, in the interim period, the focus will be on repurposing the conserved old Kallang Airport area for a range of sports, leisure, and community activities. This temporary utilization will provide residents and visitors with opportunities to engage in various recreational pursuits while the larger development plans for the area are underway.

• Kampong Bugis

Situated in close proximity to Lavender, Kallang, and Bendemeer MRT stations, Kampong Bugis is poised to evolve into a desirable residential and recreational destination. The vision for Kampong Bugis is to cultivate a vibrant precinct that prioritizes active mobility, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. Additionally, plans are in place to rejuvenate the Kallang Riverside Park, transforming it into an inviting waterfront green space for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

• Underpass Under CTE

The underpass under CTE will be made more pleasant and safe with better lighting, and increased headroom.

• Kallang Bahru Underpass

A new underpass is set to be constructed, offering a seamless and secure crossing beneath Kallang Bahru.

• PIE Crossing

The introduction of a walking and cycling bridge over the PIE will serve as a significant enhancement compared to the existing pedestrian overhead bridges. Designed with a comfortable gradient, the bridge will feature gentler sections along its length, ensuring ease of use for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
