Eastern Corridor
The Eastern Corridor is an 18 km route made up of park connectors that have been gradually completed since its announcement in 2021.
Half of the route runs alongside waterways, including those improved under the national water agency PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme, providing park visitors with a scenic cycling experience through the eastern waterscapes. This creates more opportunities for the community to explore parks and natural areas.
Multi-tiered landscaping along the Eastern Corridor enhances greenery and attracts biodiversity, bringing the community closer to nature and enabling them to enjoy the health and well-being benefits of natural environments. Additionally, it connects communities and creates a sense of spaciousness beyond our small island-city state. These efforts support Singapore’s transformation into a City in Nature.
Key Features:
1. Seamless Connectivity: The Eastern Corridor links several major parks and residential areas, allowing residents and visitors to travel between these locations without interruption. This is achieved through a series of park connectors that offer safe and convenient routes for cycling, jogging, and walking.
2. Scenic and Diverse Landscapes: The corridor provides a varied landscape experience, with paths running alongside coastlines, through green parks, and across residential neighborhoods. This makes it an attractive route for outdoor enthusiasts who can enjoy both natural and urban views.
3. Recreational Opportunities: Along the corridor, there are numerous opportunities for recreational activities. The connected parks offer amenities such as playgrounds, fitness corners, water sports facilities, and picnic areas. This makes the Eastern Corridor not just a transportation route but also a destination for leisure and recreation.
4. Sustainability and Green Initiatives: The development of the Eastern Corridor is part of Singapore’s broader efforts to promote sustainable urban living. The park connectors are designed to encourage non-motorized transport, reducing the carbon footprint of the city. Green spaces along the route also contribute to biodiversity and provide ecological benefits.
5. Community Engagement: The corridor enhances community interaction by providing accessible public spaces where people can gather, exercise, and enjoy nature. The route is popular for community events, family outings, and social gatherings, strengthening the sense of community in the eastern region.
The Eastern Corridor is a significant enhancement to Singapore’s urban infrastructure, promoting active lifestyles, connectivity, and environmental sustainability while offering a picturesque and enjoyable route for residents and visitors alike.
