Kallang Alive
Kallang Alive
In the ‘Kallang Alive!’ Sports Hub vicinity, Sport Singapore is enhancing its array of sporting and communal amenities to bolster its reputation as an inclusive sports hub. Additionally, the nearby preserved Old Kallang Airport presents opportunities for diverse community, sports, and recreational activities to be hosted for public enjoyment. Furthermore, the incorporation of additional intermediary habitats along the river aims to support biodiversity and promote the thriving of wildlife.
1. Kallang Football Hub
The construction of the Kallang Football Hub is slated for completion by 2019. It will offer a range of pitches in different sizes and configurations for both training purposes and public use. Additionally, a new perimeter running track will encircle the facility, enhancing its appeal to fitness enthusiasts and athletes alike.
2. Singapore Tennis Centre
A new Singapore Tennis Centre is in the works to be developed at a more centrally located site, aiming to replace the current facility. The upgraded center will boast an expanded number of courts, including the addition of sheltered courts, providing enhanced playing experiences for tennis enthusiasts.
3. Youth Hub and Velodrome
Sport Singapore is collaborating with the National Youth Sports Institute to transform the area, incorporating dedicated spaces for sports such as speed climbing and parkour. Concurrently, authorities are finalizing a feasibility study for the construction of a velodrome. This velodrome will double as a national training center for track cycling while also being accessible to the public for recreational use.
4. Benaan Kamal Green
A dynamic community park space is set to be established along the Jalan Benaan Kapal waterfront. This area will feature scenic lookout points, interconnected park connectors, and a multi-generational “enabling gym.” The inclusive design of the gym aims to cater to people of all ages and abilities, fostering community engagement and enjoyment of the waterfront environment.
5. Redevelopment of Kallang Theater
Plans are underway to transform the current Kallang Theatre and its surrounding areas into a unified sport, entertainment, and lifestyle complex. Proposed ideas include the creation of a versatile indoor arena suitable for hosting e-sports events, the establishment of a themed hotel, and the development of an international sports medicine center. This redevelopment aims to revitalize the area and provide a diverse range of offerings to cater to various interests and needs within the community.
6. Alive Gateway and Loop
An iconic circular walking and cycling loop is set to be implemented, following the original circular path of the Kallang Airport’s airfield. This loop will seamlessly connect the waterfront area, extending across Stadium Boulevard and Nicoll Highway. By tracing the historical footprint of the airport, this loop will offer a unique and scenic route for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy, enhancing connectivity and promoting active lifestyles in the surrounding area.
